KILLER ASTEROID PROJECT

AWARD PROGRAMS

Student Awards

A significant part of the Killer Asteroid Project is recognition of students and teachers who have participated and measured near earth objects for NASA's Near Earth Object Observations Program.  All students who participate in the Killer Asteroid Project (KAP) will receive a full color Astronomical Research Institute - NASA award suitable for framing.  It's our way of showing appreciation to contributions by students who are helping to protect the home planet from future encounters with killer asteroids!  All students who make successful measurements of Killer Near Earth Asteroids will be included in the 2007-2008  Killer Asteroid Project Hall of Fame listing each observation made for NASA's Near Earth Object Observation Program.  Students can learn more about each asteroid they have measured by clicking the "blue" near earth object provisional designation in the table for complete details.

The student who makes the most observations of near earth objects each school year will receive a fine award plaque for their efforts.   This award is based on the total number of observations made during the 2007 - 2008 school year.

The student who submits the best artistic expression involving NEO research will receive the Best NEO Artwork Award.  The art submitted may be a photo or drawing involving classroom related activities or a group photo of students involved in NEO research or drawings of real or fictional near earth objects.  This concept is open to any type of original photograph, drawing or art produced by a student involving near earth objects.

Outstanding Teacher Award

The Outstanding Teacher Award is presented to the teacher who has provided the best educational opportunities for students related to activities in the Killer Asteroid Project.

School Awards

All educational institutions that participate in the 2007-2008 Killer Asteroid Project will receive a personalized award plaque.   This plaque will contain the name of the school, names of each participating student and instructor as a permanent record in this NASA research program.  These awards are presented annually during the month of May.

Through this awards program our goal is to encourage students to excel in academics, especially in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.  The Killer Asteroid Project mission is designed to inspire teachers who desire to take education one step outside the classroom and advance scientific knowledge among their students through actual research opportunities.  The Killer Asteroid Project is a powerful research program design to help educators teach our next generation of scientists.
